Dare to Dream

The Road Less Travelled to Kota Kinabalu

In order to save some money, we both decided
to take a flight from Senai airport instead.

To go to Senai airport, we took a lounge bus from
Kotaraya

That was our flight

This was where Zulina and I stayed from
26th to 29th April -- Beringgis Beach Resort
in Kota Kinabalu

This beach was just behind the resort

A warning sign by the beach

My birthday gift from the resort staff

The river cruise started from here. It costed
RM$205 per person and dinner was provided.
We took a 2 hour car ride to go to Kampong
Garama where light refreshments were served
before we embarked on the river cruise. The cruise
was about 2 hours long and if the weather was good,
we could even see fireflies. But luck was not on
our side as it rained minutes after we boarded
the boat.

What we saw from the boat

Silhouette of a lonely proboscis monkey

More proboscis monkeys

A pack of proboscis monkeys

It started to rain along the way and it became
very cold that I had to put on the raincoat

In the rain, a herd of water buffaloes decided
to cross the river.

Dinner after the river cruise

We love the food!!!

On board the navy boat. This ride only costed
us RM$1 per person

My sunset

One day after my Kota Kinabalu trip, I was
back to work. But blame it on luck but on that
night, I was shivering with fever that my dad
had to send me to the nearest hospital in which
I got a jab and a possible dengue fever infection.
But thank god that it's not dengue fever after all.
Or else...
p.s./ Syat and Erin, the above pictures are for your
kind viewing...

The Road Less Travelled with Zulina
My idea of travelling is to experience a different culture, custom and to meet new people.

I did all of that and a lot more while in Kota Kinabalu. The warm hospitality of the resort staff. The once in a lifetime experience to go on a river cruise to see the proboscis monkeys in their natural habitat in the midst of the rain. To see a herd of water buffaloes crossing the river about 1 metre from you. To have Jeffrey, our friendly guide who also volunteered as our cameraman. The cute boatman at Kampung Garama. The 20 to 30 minutes cruise on board the navy boat. The sunset. The loud and long knock on the neighbour's door at 3.46am which woke Zulina and I. We were both too spooked after that, we ended up watching HBO, only to go back to sleep after Subuh. The only thing I wished we had done was the island hopping trip and a chance to snorkel again. But it's okay. Maybe next time.

More Birthday Surprise!

After the whole "selenge" episode in the office, I met
Zulina to accompany her to get her ear piece. After that,
this was what greeted me when we reached Plaza Singapura
-- a birthday balloon, a huge white paperbag and
ice-cream!!!

Birthday cakes are so over rated so I'm
happy to get a birthday ice-cream instead

This was really sweet. Thanks Fariz for helping
Irna with it.

More birthday gifts!

To the lovely girls, Irna, Zulina, Netty, Fini,
Wawa and Kak Lin, THANK YOU so much
from the bottom of my heart. Even though Zulina
unknowingly gave me many signs that a surprise
dinner was coming up, it was still sweet.
After the birthday surprise, it's time to leave for home
and start packing for my Kota Konabalu trip!
